"The state of California received an "A" grade overall thanks to a 40 percent decline in average distanced traveled, but several counties all in rural areas with few reported cases have actually logged an increase in distance traveled since the shelter-in-place order was issued. However, this could be partially explained by the fact that residents of these counties have to drive further to reach grocery stores, restaurants for takeout and other essential services."

Last week the state received a B so this is an improvement.

"To calculate the actual underlying social indexing score we combine tens of millions of anonymous mobile phones and their interactions with each other each day - and then extrapolate the results to the population level," Unacast writes in its methodology."
All counties in the US can use this, go to the link.

(17,107 posts)the block to a very well-equipped, non-mobbed neighborhood grocery store. Unfortunately, there's an excellent famous bakery the same distance away, right close to the grocery store, with world-class cannolis. If I do venture out, I can find everything I need, just down the street.
As it says, people in other locations may need to go further for what I can find a 3 minute walk away.
I'd like to see if they can use data to extrapolate social distancing.

I used to work at an Italian coffee shop and stuffed those by the dozen...YUM!
Oh well, it is better than being fed through a tube for $1,000 a day in the hospital.

(16,903 posts)We also live in the Bay Area, in the NOPA section. Ive been staying away from our little corner market because the owner doesnt wear a mask, same for the employees in the bake shop down the street.

(17,107 posts)The guy in the butcher department doesn't wear a mask, but he puts on disposable gloves for anything he takes out of the display case.
The staff at Dianda's on Mission between 24th and 25th - I don't think they wear one. All the stuff on display is in the cases, and they use tongs & may use gloves. I'm going to have to look closer next time I'm in there.
I work at Discount Builders Supply at 13th and Mission. I've been off work since late February, but I'm returning on Wednesday, April 1st. I'm right now designing a way to attach velcro to a Giants cap. I've ordered some heavy-weight clear file protectors, which I'll glue velcro to. So I'll have a removable, disposable face shield.

(1,939 posts)No cases reported here yet. I went to the grocery store yesterday (25 miles away) and I can tell you that NO ONE is practicing the proper procedures. I was wearing mask & gloves, I saw 2 people I know who both work in grocery stores and they were both appropriately garbed. No one else was. Unbelievable. In fact, one guy wearing the requisite b.s. right wing garb, hat & buttons, started at me like I was someone to be mocked or a fly to be swatted. I forced the asshole to say hello to me.
So it's just a matter of time before this area gets slam dunked. And we most certainly do not have adequate health care here, even in normal times.

(51,585 posts)and we both experienced that attitude as well. They were out last about 2 weeks ago and I was a week ago and no one wore masks or gloves except for me and I got dirty looks. There were marks of the floors at the stores to stand apart but only half followed the measures. I have to remind people to step back from me. People are idiots everywhere. That is why I am staying inside.
