Suspicious powder sent to FBI office in Riverside

The FBI is examining a powdery substance whose delivery to the Riverside field office on Tuesday, May 5, prompted the Riverside Fire Department to send its hazardous materials team.

No one was reported injured, Riverside Fire Capt. Brian Guzzetta said Wednesday. The Fire Department went to the FBI office in the 3400 block of Vine Street after a report of a suspicious package, he said.

The package had the office’s address on it, but the address did not name the FBI as the recipient, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said. She said the FBI was not immediately sure whether the substance, which Eimiller described as “powdery,” was toxic.
