urged them to seek redress through government agencies, they are too afraid to even try to navigate through the process and that even if they prevail, there is yet another process they have to go through to try and collect. And then, there is always the fear that their immigration status will be used against them.

Villanueva is the controversial Sheriff of LA County. Until I read this essay, written by him, I had thought of him as at least controversial, if not worse.

This sheds new light on him and perhaps he's not quite what the stories I've read about him make him out to be.

Wage theft is a serious problem, and I hope he will follow through on his ideas.
