San Francisco's Tosca Cafe plans to say goodbye this weekend
Thats the plan for the Jeannette Etheredge era at Tosca Cafe (242 Columbus Ave.), which will come to its conclusion after one last night of service on Sunday (May 19th, 2013). As reported earlier this year, Tosca Cafe is in the process of being sold to Ken Friedman and chef April Bloomfield. The new regime which runs New York hotspots like the Spotted Pig, Breslin, among others is keeping the name of the iconic North Beach bar intact.

While Friedman and Bloomfield plan to preserve much of the iconic bars look and feel, they will make a number of renovations, including remodeling the entire kitchen, which hasnt been used in more than 50 years. They hope to reopen later this year.
Etheredge has owned the 93-year-old venue since 1980. Famous for its jukebox, bright red booths and House Cappuccinos, Tosca Cafe has often been a hotspot for celebrities and barflies alike, but in recent years, the bar made headlines for a landlord dispute that threatened to shut it down.

End on an era. I've spent many fine evenings at Etheredge's LOCALLY-OWNED Tosca. It will be missed.
