Homeless Advocates need you at Fresno City council mtg 8/29 9am

City Council, Thursday, 9 a.m.

With the evictions earlier this week the situation for our homeless residents in Fresno is becoming untenable. There is another mass eviction scheduled for next week, and again the week after. We are in a crisis, and the situation continues to deteriorate.

We are trying to get a large turnout of homeless advocates at this Thursday's City Council meeting, which starts at 8:30 a.m. The President of the Council has advised us to arrive at 9 a.m. to speak in open session.

We need both people willing to speak and other supporters in the audience. If you are willing to speak, fill out the yellow card and give it to the clerk at the computer station in the front. We will each have three minutes. Say what you like about the folly of these repeated homeless evictions. A positive alternative we are promoting is the establishment of safe and legal campgrounds, an option that is meeting with increased success across the country. There is no reason that Fresno could not have such campgrounds, with toilets and running water, garbage collection, storage lockers, and enough supervision to keep people reasonably safe.

Please Help! There is a window of opportunity right now to get the council's attention. Let's not miss this opportunity.
