Who is Nithya Raman, Los Angeles mayoral candidate who knocked out Spencer Pratt
Raman is an Indian immigrant with a background in urban planning, according to her campaign and city council websites. She has bachelors and graduate degrees from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, respectively.
Before her city council service, she was the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council Homelessness Committees co-chair and co-founded SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition.
In 2020, Raman ran for city council and was ultimately successful. According to The Los Angeles Times, she was the first Democratic Socialists of America-supported candidate to notch a Los Angeles City Council victory. She was also the first candidate to defeat an incumbent councilmember in over 15 years, the outlet reported.
However, she has not always taken far-left leaning stances during her time on the city council, according to the LA Times. Raman has historically been in line with Bass on issues including homelessness, transportation and immigration, per the outlet.
