Bay activist: I made it rain with earth acupuncture

http://blog.sfgate.com/stew/2014/02/06/bay-activist-i-made-it-rain-with-earth-acupuncture/

As it turns out, the rain is the making of Bay Area resident Lowell Darling and the acupuncture needles he stuck into the ground in Contra Costa County. Or at least that’s what the conceptual artist and former gubernatorial candidate is saying....

According to Darling, he quietly placed acupuncture needles outside his studio in Rodeo last Friday. And sure enough, light rain began falling over the weekend followed by the bigger storm that hit the Bay Area on Wednesday. Another storm is expected to arrive late Friday.

“Guess I should have sent out a press release ahead of the treatment but was afraid I’d lose credibility if it failed,” he wrote on Facebook.

Darling has made something of a career out of his offbeat displays of social and environmental activism. He has stitched up sections of the San Andreas Fault with rawhide to prevent earthquakes and nailed down towns to prevent them from flying away with the earth’s centrifugal force.

I think perhaps the fumes and vapors from the ConocoPhillips refinery in Rodeo may be having a...troubling...effect on Mr. Darling.
