Stanislaus County police agencies acquire surplus military equipment
Led by the Modesto Police Department, law enforcement agencies in Stanislaus County have snapped up some $4.2 million worth of surplus military equipment since 1993 through a special Defense Department program.
Modesto police account for $2.6 million of that total, having acquired everything from a cargo truck and helmets to chemical- protection suits and rifles. However, it's been a few years since the department received surplus equipment.
In 2011, Stanislaus County agencies collected more than 2,400 pieces, their highest total ever.
Stanislaus County is far from alone in tapping a vast supply of free military surplus to arm and equip its officers. Public agencies around the state have grabbed cast-off military goods that become available on a weekly basis.

Please read the complete article, take note of some statements issued by department officials. Here's one for those with limited time, "Law enforcement is a paramilitary organization, and we often utilize the same type of equipment that the military might use," Christianson said. RPG's, and other military equipment for police to use or train with or sale?
good gawd ya all it's time to call them what they are, don't ya think?
what's that name again it's on the tip of the tongue, but yet just can't recall?!?
oh damn what a drag it is getting old, as heard on the radio, thanks Mr, Jagger.

(24,331 posts)One of the pieces they got was an INERT rocket launcher, as in "disabled," as in "a large metal tube," to be used by the bomb squad as an educational display. And you reinterpret that as "OMG the police are using RPGs!"
I get really tired of people around here who don't understand the meaning of words like "fascism."

(11,181 posts)Having actually lived in a fascist police state (Franco's Spain), I can attest that California is about as far as one can get from fascism.

(406 posts)for this equipment and the police are getting it free for their use. I didn't use the term fascist, however reading the article helps to show that California Police departments have enjoyed a large percentage of the free military equipment.
It's really about what they do with that military equipment, that should be looked at and what is the purpose to have police with military grade equipment.
Agreed that RPG's can be useful dog whistles, and people need to know, as it appears to some, that something wicked this way comes. Taken with the other actions happening around the country these days and into the future, is it really a good idea to not be aware, of these types of things and what those officials in charge have stated and the orders they obey.
