In the past you could put a rider on your renters insurance policy to cover contents and housing displacement. I'm really surprised none of these companies (californiarocks.com/find-an-insurance-company) could assist.

Better to set aside what you consider to be a reasonable premium in an investment account to help defray replacement costs if you suffer a loss.

in L.A. and there's no way I could afford earthquake ins. My bldg. is 99 yrs old so I like to think it's pretty well built!
