A question for central coasters. I live in the south county of San Luis Obispo

county close to Pismo Beach and Arroyo Grande village. The last few days I have been smelling some gassy odors. I have propane so sometimes one of my pilots goes out, but this time I couldn't find one. I had a job to do a couple of miles down the road (I pet sit and water plants for vacationers) and while I was outdoors I still smelled the gas. Since its been warm I've had all my windows open and I keep getting wiffs of that gas smell. Is anyone else in the area smelling this?

1. That's happened before and never been explained.

I live in San Diego, and it's happened a couple of times in North County. It's a bit more common up your way, and the description of the smell varies. Many describe it a smelling somewhat like gas, others just as "a bad smell" that sort of comes and goes. Hazmat and various agencies sometimes admit they can smell it too, sometimes not, but never have found any source.

2. Thanks. At least it's nothing nefarious, I hope.

We do get sulfur smells here in our water, but I know what sulfur smells like and this isn't it.

I seldom go up that far north so all I know is what I hear on local news.

And we've had some gusty winds last few days.

when the wind blew from that direction. But it is a smell like that. However I don't know of anything like Price Canyon that's closer. I wonder if ther is any new drilling nearby going on? There has been nothing in the news. More ominously, I wonder if some natural gas thing is rising from the ocean due to the unseasonable hot weather?

Whales are migratory, but there is a lot more in the ocean that is going on. I wish our oceanographers, not the ones that are bought and paid for by PG&E and the oil industry, would find out exactly what is farting out there.
