What do Udall's Colorado supporters think

about Mark hiding from the Obama visit to Denver. I have worked hard for Mark for years and I know what he's up against in the election. But it seems stupid, no matter the President's popularity, to not show for an event where Obama is raising thousands of dollars for Mark's campaign. FOX is making hay with this and of course so are all the CO Repugs. Does Mark think the crazies will vote for him if he acts like a Repug (today co-sponsoring a bill to expand gun use on public lands)? If his base stays home there certainly will not be enough "independents" to re-elect him.
I called both Mark's Denver and DC offices. They said he had to be in DC for legislative work; I am glad he is co-sponsoring a bill with Patty Murray to overturn the terrible Hobby Lobby decision though he could have done this from Denver. If he has to kowtow to the gun nuts and Obama haters will progressives really win if he is re-elected?

That's something Gardner really has no real record of, so of course he's going to "accuse" Udall of actually doing the job we pay him for. What really sucks is the media's giddy willingness to go along with Gardner on this.

I got to visit for a bit with the senator and his wife. This was in Greeley, not a part of the state known to be friendly to Democrats. Udall and Hickenlooper showed up to walk in the parade, smack dab in the middle of Cory Gardner country. In fact, they had much higher visibility than Gardner. If Udall was going to "kowtow to the gun nuts and Obama haters" he would avoid this part of the state completely.

Gardner, on the other hand, has NOTHING to show for his tenure in congress, unless you count all the votes against health care and the redefining rape thing. So he's looking to slime Udall by any means. Strongly urge you to visit Colorado Pols and read their article on this:

http://coloradopols.com/diary/60188/udall-and-obama-damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-dont-2#comments

The news coverage out of Denver has been disgusting, happily blaring Gardner's "perspective." I called the Channel 9 newsroom a couple of nights ago, right in the middle of their broadcast; the person I spoke with was seated, according to her, right behind the main camera, so she whispered her part of our conversation. When I asked why they hadn't mentioned the legislation Udall would be voting on, she seemed surprised, then said something about their coverage being fair. When I asked if they would cover Gardner's outrage if Udall were to "abandon" his senate job in order to grab a photo-op with the president, she repeated the comment about being "fair."

At such times it's a good idea to revisit the unfortunate reality of media ownership. That's the best prophylactic against the myth of liberal media bias.

The liberal media is only as liberal as the conservative corporations that own them.

The Denver Post has gotten more and more conservative especially since Carroll was made Opinion Editor so I cancelled it after many, many years. Even the Boulder Daily Camera, now owned by the same company, publishes not just ads and letters but Guest Commentary by the worst Berman and Koch PR firms spending milllions telling us how stupid we are to want local control and how great fracking is for CO.

I do think, however, that Udall hurt himself and his liberal base by not being seen with Obama and by what he told the media. It helped that he was on local TV tonight but I would have loved him to be with Hickenlooper and Obama in Lodo last night and at the luncheon to raise Udall's campaign money today.

And I know he was actually staying in DC to vote on the Hobby Lobby legislation. When a key vote got rescheduled he had to cancel his late flight back to Colorado for the fundraiser, and I have a lot of respect for him for doing that.

Mark Udall has been a huge supporter of Women's rights to manage their own bodies, and I truly believe that it is important to him to undo what the idiotic Supreme Court did to women in this country.

I, frankly, believe he was truly disappointed to have to miss the fundraiser.

BTW, I live in CO, and live in the district that Udall represented when he was in the house. (Boulder County) I think he's a great senator and wish Bennett was half as good.

I agree with you. I just think he can't win by trying to straddle the fence to enlist some of the "independents" or Repugs he needs in this close election. And I'm not at all sure the young people and students who elected Obama will bother to vote this time. We need to enlist CU, CSU, and college students all over CO to work for Udall and the Dems to counteract all the money pouring in from Koch etc for Gardner and Beaupres.
