Larimer County issuing same-sex marriages

Barbara Hooper, left, and Wendy Wood embrace after becoming the first same-sex couple to be legally married in Larimer County at the courthouse Monday, Oct. 6, 2014.

Larimer County will begin issuing same-sex marriage licenses at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 6.

County Clerk and Recorder Angela Myers said she received the all-clear from the county attorney after the federal 10th District Court of Appeals lifted a stay on same-sex marriages. Licenses will be issued at the county courthouse, 200 W. Oak St., Fort Collins and later today at county satellite offices in Estes Park and Loveland.

The U.S. Supreme Court opened the way Monday for same-sex marriage in as many as 30 states when it unexpectedly and tersely turned away appeals from five states seeking to prohibit gay and lesbian unions. The court's order effectively makes gay marriage legal now in 30 states.

Without comment, the justices brought to an end delays in same-sex marriages in five states: Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin.

I looked more carefully.

I was wrong. It could be more romantic if the backdrop was Rome.

(36 years). Nice that people who've spent their lives together are now being recognized by society.
