Gonzaga High School in D.C. reports its president has covid-19
Gonzaga High School in the District said in a letter to parents that its president, Fr. Stephen Planning, has tested positive for covid-19.
The announcement came Monday and officials said Planning was showing only mild symptoms, namely a low grade fever, which started Friday afternoon.
A statement went on to say that he awoke Saturday still feeling feverish, and at his doctors order went to the hospital. The flu and other causes were ruled out and he was given a coronavirus test Saturday night. His test came back positive Sunday night, officials said.
Officials said in the statement that he is "feeling relatively well, is in OK spirits, has been resting, and is doing what is urgently required from all of us during this time namely self quarantining."
Administrators at the school said he is working on getting in touch with individuals he had direct contact with in recent days, including on recent travel to Florida.
