Muriel Bowser Defeats Mayor Vincent Gray in Washington Primary.

Must say I haven't followed this, as living in MD since '06, and husb, deceased, so no longer have a formal relationship with DC. Will be watching, tho.

What do folks think of her?

edit: just saw this: 'Ms. Bowser will face a general election challenge in November from an independent candidate, David A. Catania, who has won city-wide elections as a council member. Ms. Bowser has history on her side: since Washington home rule began in 1973, the winner of the Democratic primary has sailed into the mayor’s office.'

She was against the LRAA (making big box stores like Walmart pay their employees higher wages), she didn’t support Initiative 70 (stopping the direct contributions from corporations to politicians), and she seems to be mainly interested in giving tax cuts to millionaires (“keeping seniors in their homes”). On the actual issues, she’ll probably be worse than Gray, but I’m not expecting any huge changes (I think Gray was marginally better on the issues than Fenty, and she’ll probably be marginally worse than Fenty).

I fully expect her to win in November. Catania had a shot if Gray won the nomination; now his path to victory seems contingent on Bowser self-immolating.

On the bright side, Gray was ousted for ethical reasons and there will be two more seats opening up – Ward 4, and Catania’s at-large seat.
