Today's the day - Vote!

Today is a pretty important election for D.C. today. We have a couple of District-wide elections that I'm paying particularly close attention to:

At-Large Councilmember - As I've written before, Elissa Silverman is a great progressive candidate and it looks like she has a strong chance of winning. I'm really hoping she gets one of the two seats available, and it looks like she has a good chance to.

Anita Bonds will win one of the two seats, but since she's a pretty bad politician, I'm using my second At-Large vote to encourage one of the other candidates. I like Graylan Hagler, and he's done good work, but I'll probably give my second vote to Eugene Puryear, who's run a strong campaign and is good on many issues. It's also been good to see a Statehood-Green Party candidate who's actually run a real campaign.

Attorney General - This one is a bit tough. We have three decent candidates (Zukerberg, Masters, Smith) that have been struggling to overcome a bad establishment candidate (Racine). The three decent candidates were about evenly split in the polls last I checked, and all were behind Racine, but with most people undecided. I think I'll vote for Zukerberg, not only for his work in ending marijuana prohibition, but also since if it wasn't for him we wouldn't be having this election in the first place. The council decided they could stop this election by fiat, and Zukerberg had to take them to court to change that.

One good thing is that in Ward 1 and Ward 6, it looks like we're going to have some decent Democrats replaced by better Democrats. And the initiative to legalize marijuana looks set to pass.

I'm also fulling expecting Bowser to win the mayoral race. Bowser is a bit of a corporatist, so I suppose we'll have to wait four years to get a good mayor. On the bright side, though, it means there will be an opening in Ward 4 that we might be able to get someone good in.
