ACLU slams Mayor Bowsers efforts to hide police body cam footage. "Without establishing a FOIA

exemption that allows for public access, the Council and Mayor are using taxpayer funds to give MPD another tool to surveil communities - not provide a tool for police accountability." It continues:

"Police accountability is not achieved by allowing the police to police themselves," said Hopkins-Maxwell, “The ACLU-NCA is looking forward to the opportunity to work with the Council and Mayor to ensure that the use of body cameras by MPD is done a thoughtful, strategic way.”

The ACLU release can be found here. Loose Lips has more on this issue, which is going before the council. The Mayor has just added two allies to the council this part week (well, one was added and another will likely be added when all the votes are counted), which is going to give her a lot more leverage on many of these issues.
