This is how so many in FL learn how to go around the rules. Precourt gets cushy job & salary.

Why bother spending years going to school and learning a useful engineering profession, when all you need is to please the good buddies to get your next job? That's the role model for too many people in this state. Education is so overrated.

Former legislator Steve Precourt to get $185,000 to run Orlando toll road agenc

Former State Rep. Steve Precourt stands to earn $185,000 annually as the new director of Metro Orlando's toll-road agency, according to his employment contract.

Precourt, who resigned his legislative seat last week, also will receive a $300 monthly car allowance, $100 a month for expenses, five weeks of vacation and access to the state pension plan. If fired, he would get three months of severance.

His agreement, actually a series of five one-year pacts, likely will be approved by the board of the Orlando Orange County Expressway Authority next week. The deal will be effective retroactive to Thursday.

Authority Chairman Walter Ketcham, who negotiated the agreement with Precourt, said the salary is "a decent place to start."
