Precourt accuses expressway of 'backdoor dealings'

(The comments in the readers forum nail it. Well, 3 out of 4.)

Former State Rep. Steve Precourt this morning accused Orlando's toll-road agency of "backdoor dealings" with State Attorney Jeff Ashton that forced Precourt to reject a job offer from the authority.

"This behavior is morally and ethically wrong, as well as wrong on so many levels," Precourt wrote in a letter to Walter Ketcham, chairman of the Orlando Orange County Expressway Authority.

Precourt, who resigned his legislative seat last month to become director of the expressway authority, turned down the post that would have paid $185,000 annually after the authority board proposed hiring him on a monthly basis

The agency had planned to give him a series of five 1-year contracts, but pulled back to a monthly bid after Ashton sent them a letter saying they should postpone hiring Precourt because his office was investigating the authority.
