Bi-Lo/Winn-Dixie closing 23 stores

Bi-Lo Holdings will close 23 Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie stores on or before Nov. 17, a spokesman for the Jacksonville, Fla.-based retailer told SN Tuesday.

Employees at the stores, located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina and South Carolina, were informed of the pending closures Friday.

Spokesman Brian Wright told SN that the stores slated for closure were underperforming and represented less than 3% of the total store base.

key word being 'had'. Now they are all Winn Dixies, and they are terrible. Perhaps the stores being closed were underperforming for reasons apparent to shoppers and not the grocers?

and frankly, they were run out of Mass with people who had no clue what Florida wanted. Problem is, Bi Lo tried to shoer up a lot of the sweetbays, and it is sinking them. Funny who the old winn dixies still have customers, and the sweetbays do not, because people remember how bad sweetbay was.

The local Sweetbay here was the friendliest store around, even the managers would greet you and speak with you anywhere in the store. Their bakery is missed by all I know who visited that store. Apparently both W/D and Sweetbay should have followed that stores example, even if it was the odd man out.

Winn Dixie came back, don't know what now. Used to buy at Winn Dixie before Sweet Bay, but not since they came back.
