Broward Democrats Face Revolt Over Fired Black Staffer

Acting Democratic Chair Cynthia Busch faced down a wave of complaints this week from a dozen or so African American activists angry that she fired the party’s black office manager.

The public complaints came this week at second monthly Democratic meeting that Busch chaired. They indicate that the firing is an issue with black activists that continues to haunt the party.

Perhaps most telling was that the party’s black Vice Chair Christine Jones publically demanded that the party immediately hire a black staffer.

“I’m taking the blame because of one action I took. In the end, we’ll get beyond this.” Busch told Browardbeat.com after the meeting.

Do they think she was fired because she was black? The guy who was fired says, "It's because I'm black and gay," but that does not seem to be the case. I think there's another explanation. Cynthia Busch, the party chairperson, wanted to make room for one of her buddies, someone who would be loyal to her, so she booted Michael Howson and gave his job to Travis Perron. Its still slimy, but it's not racism.

Think about this, of all the people to fire she fires the black guy.

Duh!

What is this, a bad movie where if there's a black guy in it early you know he's gonna die, or in this case, get fired.

I think the black guy, who is also gay, had the job she wanted to give her buddy. I say this because (1) I have seen it before and (2) I can't conceive of anybody taking the risk of firing someone because he's black or gay.

Sometimes this stuff just stares you in the face but if you don't want to see it you don't.

He had a job.

Other people had a job.

She choose to fire him not anyone else. Not that she should have fired anyone to hire her friend.

Why do you think the other black people in the Dem organization are upset about it?

Except the article said there was a limited amount of money, so it appears she had to get rid of somebody to make way for her friend. And is there some evidence she is opposed to having a black person represent the party? A gay person?

Does anyone know how many people are employed by Broward Dems and if any are full-time? My impression is that in neighboring PBC the full-time staff number is 0. Paid staff in a Florida DEC sounds like a luxury.
