DUI case against Sen. Miller referred to district attorney

The DUI case against Kansas Sen. Vic Miller (D) is being referred to Shawnee County District Court from Topeka Municipal Court, where Miller used to be chief judge, the city spokeswoman said Monday.

“The case was referred to Shawnee County for charging consideration due to potential conflicts that may have arisen in municipal court due to Mr. Miller’s previous employment here,” said Molly Hadfield, the city’s media relations coordinator.

Municipal Court charges Miller faced of driving under the influence and inattentive driving were dismissed on June 20, according to that court’s website.

The decision involved was made by Karan Thadani, the city’s chief of prosecution, Hadfield said. Assistant city attorney Hannah Simpson filed the motion, she said.
