This is stuck in my mind.
About a week ago I was walking by the television and I heard this one line statement. Now who said it or in connection to what, I missed but it stayed with me. I will get back to it later.
There is a lot of change in this country since I was young. If I am right women now make up over half the work force. By 2050 Hispanics will make up a third of the population. Climate change may have an influence on our economy. The rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer. We are losing jobs that may never come back due to automation, technology and cheaper off shore labor.
In view of this one would ask why are women’s right under attack. Immigration reform is being blocked. Climate change is considered a hoax. The right to collective bargaining is being challenged and social programs are being dropped.
I understand why conservatives want to hang on to what used to be because the future is uncertain so it is easier to stay with what you know. Now for progressives the challenge is to move ahead in the face of changes. Time and tide wait for no man or women, change is a way of life, always has been and always will be.
Now back to that one line. You cannot create the future by hanging onto the past. Think about it.
