Jealous Lags in Latest Poll

A new Goucher Poll released Tuesday has Gov. Larry Hogan leading Democratic challenger Ben Jealous by 22 points, despite high levels of support in Maryland for progressive policies.

According to the poll, 54 percent of likely voters in the state said they will vote for Hogan over Jealous.

However, a majority of those polled also expressed support for a $15 minimum wage, legalized recreational marijuana, and a single-payer health care system — all of which are policies Jealous promotes.

“I think it speaks to the fact that Jealous has not been on the airwaves at all this entire summer,” said Mileah Kromer, director of the Sarah T. Hughes Field Politics Center, where she oversees the Goucher Poll.

policies, according to this polll, yet they don’t support the candidate that expresses those policies

and while it may have validity that adervertising matters, people who vote should make it their duty to know where candidates stand on the issues, and not have to be spoon fed with a 30 second political ad

Weirder is that a majority of democrats will vote split ticket most likely. They will vote repug Governor and democrats for everything else. Weird!!!!

But I was on the MD Democrats Facebook page and there several comments how they would vote for Hogan. Hogan is only not that bad because he has a veto-proof Dem majority. He is very limited.

Still, I sniped at these folks not to call themselves Democrats if they don’t vote for Jealous. I hold my nose to vote for Democrats, even if they are not particularly good ones. Now the shoe is in the other foot and they can’t do the same? Funny how that works.

I haven’t been on this site so I don’t know how much discussion there has been of this race. Where does the “vote D or else” contigent stand?

I’m not sure why Jealous has elicited this response, but maybe it’s just that he’s a long shot. Or maybe something worse.
