Governor Larry Hogan made the tough choice to use the $68 million Maryland's legislators earmarked for education, not for education! Over $11 million of that money would have gone to Baltimore schools. Governor Hogan called that money "extra money" and put it into the state's underfunded pensions, saying it would be irresponsible not to.
The money at issue was part of about $200 million that lawmakers set aside for their top priorities extra school funding, preventing a pay cut for state workers and paying for a range of health-care initiatives that include Medicaid coverage for more pregnant women and funding for heroin addiction.
Governor Larry Hogan made the tough choice to spend $30 million on a 60-bed jail for Baltimore teenagers who have been charged as adults!

(3,123 posts)Given what happened in Baltimore last month you would think he would do something worthwhile for the children, but he's showing his true colors (as I all but predicted after the election) slowly but surely.
Now, that could force Montgomery and Prince George's Counties to increase property taxes and everything will be going up in order to deal with the shortfall. In addition, Crispy Creme Hogan has all but said no to the Purple Line, which would not only improve the transportation for both counties but CREATE MORE JOBS as well!!!
My thing is, the more taxes go up, the more people will end up leaving the state and we'll be no worse than DC, Virginia, New York, LA, Chicago, etc.. I can only hope there's a solution for these problems but knowing this asshole, I'm not holding my breath, trust me. I'm just as disappointed and pissed off as you are.
