Nearly 40 inches of snow in Maryland.

'State officials said snow totals ranged from 2 inches on the Lower Shore to nearly 40 inches in parts of Western Maryland. Up to 12 more inches are expected in some areas.

The governor said the National Guard, which was activated Friday morning, assisted emergency crews in Montgomery County where a roof collapsed on a building that stored heating equipment for a 240-unit condominium complex and on the lower Eastern Shore, where there was coastal flooding.

By mid-afternoon there were 1,500 customers without power statewide, down from 10,000 before dawn. The hardest hit with power outages live on the Eastern Shore.'
