Stockbridge: Norman Rockwell Museum (the Four Freedoms!), Chesterwood, Stockbridge Bowl (pretty), Monument Mountain
Lenox: Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (although I doubt the grounds are open now - if they are it's lovely), The Mount (also probably closed)
Mt. Greylock: nice to hike, recreate a hike that Thoreau described in "A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers". Emerson also hiked it e.g., The Unpardonable Sin, Ethan Brand
Arrowhead: Melville's home
North Adams: Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art
Northampton: Hang out

We went to see Bob Weir yesterday at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield.

We really like Pittsfield as it reminds me of my home city - Newburgh..

We have a day planned for Mass MOCA..

2. Take a walking tour

of the historic district in South Lee. Or you could visit the old marble quarries. There are probably some scenic routes in & around the Berkshires.

I also recommend the town of Shelburne Falls, MA: http://www.shelburnefalls.com/

Plus your right near the Vermont border and the Green Mountains offer some nice scenery.

I guess it depends on what you are looking to do/see plus if you have your own transportation and time.

4. how far is Lee from Old Deerfield?

That's also a beautiful place to visit. Northampton is interesting, too.

Shelburne Falls is a nice place for lunch. I understand that Bill Cosby lives nearby that town.

5. I'd guess it's about an hour/hour & a half away...

That's another place that everyone says is great to visit. I was thinking of going out to Deerfield this summer because others have said it's well worth it.

7. I spent July 4 in Old Deerfield 'bout ten years ago

It was a wonderful place to spend that holiday. Interesting cultural and historic things going on, and so beautiful. It's very low-key.

I've always wanted to stay at the Inn there. On my bucket list when I win the lottery.

For those who like Yankee Candles, the factory and showroom are just down the road from Deerfield. I'm not a fan of scented candles, but many peeps are.
