BOSTON The city's archaeological program is overseeing a dig on the Boston Common in search of relics dating back to the Revolutionary War.
The Boston Globe reports the city announced the dig Monday. Workers are digging in pursuit of items they hope will reveal the city's storied past. They'll also keep an eye out for Native American artifacts. The dig will last two days.
City Archaeologist Joe Bagley says the dig is a huge opportunity for history fans and will take place on one of the best preserved Revolutionary War sites.
Prior digs in that area turned up a British troop encampment. The camp was found directly over a Native American site that was up to 1,000 years old.
