Avon water superintendent still on job despite federal guilty plea

Water Superintendent John Tetreault is still on the job after federal officials said he will plead guilty to two counts of providing false water quality reports to the state.
Tetreault, 55, was charged Tuesday with making false representations in federally required reports, regarding the disinfectant levels in the water at two water treatment facilities.
Tetreault agreed to plead guilty to two counts of knowingly and willfully submitting to the Department of Environmental Protection federally required reports that included materially false representations, U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz said in a statement Wednesday.

On four different dates in 2010, according to court documents, Tetreault reported that residual disinfectant levels at two water treatment facilities in town met or exceeded minimum required disinfectant levels. In fact, the residual disinfectant (chlorine) levels for each of the dates was below the required level for more than four hours at each of the facilities.
