Mayor Walsh says Boston could be haven for abortionists
Mayor Martin J. Walsh says Boston could become a refuge for legal abortion clinics if a Donald Trump-shaped Supreme Court reverses Roe v Wade, though a pro-life activist is deriding the notion and arguing voters would not support turning the Hub into an “abortion mecca.”
“I think a lot of the clinics would probably look to cities like Boston to come to, safe cities, cities that are open and progressive and understand the importance of having access,” Walsh said yesterday during an in-studio appearance on Boston Herald Radio’s “Morning Meeting” program before suggesting more clinics that specialize in reproductive health could open in Boston if reproductive rights are restricted elsewhere.
“That is something I am sure we will be focusing on as we move forward in the next weeks and months,” he said.
Trump has said he will appoint Supreme Court justices who would seek to overturn the landmark 1973 decision that made abortion legal across the United States, telling “60 Minutes” the issue of legal abortion then would be decided on a state level.
