Ex-VP of Lenox National Bank gets 22 months in embezzlement case

LENOX - The former No. 2 executive of Lenox National Bank has been sentenced to 22 months in prison for embezzling more than $150,000 from the Main Street bank before it was acquired last year by Adams Community Bank.

Joseph E. Leskovitz, 53, a former Lenox resident who now lives in Lee, also must pay $154,783 in restitution and serve three years of supervised release, U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz stated in a joint announcement with FBI Special Agent Harold H. Shaw, who led the investigation.

Leskovitz pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Springfield last July to three counts of embezzling bank funds and one count of money laundering. He was sentenced on Tuesday by Judge Mark G. Mastroianni.

During the sentencing hearing, the judge cited the "personal characteristics of the defendant, that he was under enormous emotional and family strain due to his daughter's illness and his recent divorce," according to Leskovitz's attorney, Lori H. Levinson of Great Barrington.
