Schools outline transfer agreements for displaced Becker College students

In the days before Becker College confirmed it would shut down at the close of the school year, officials at other colleges in Worcester and beyond were mapping ways to help the thousands of students who would be displaced by the move.

Becker and more than a dozen schools have signed memorandums of understanding - a document that outlines a streamlined student-transfer process. The agreements, called Academic Pathways by Becker, generally require that the transferring student be in good social and academic standing.

A look at what some colleges are doing to help:

Clark University

The Becker School of Design & Technology will absorb Becker's respected gaming-design program, allowing current Becker students to complete their degree. The program will retain Becker faculty members and, for at least the next academic year, will be based at Becker's Worcester campus.

“By merging Becker’s strengths in these dynamic areas with the heft of a Clark liberal arts education and our research capabilities, we’re creating an amplified and energized academic experience that uniquely equips our students to confront challenges on a global scale and embrace emerging opportunities in the 21st-century economy. This is a perfect fit,” Clark President David Fithian said.
