EXCLUSIVE POLL: Michigan Governor's Race Between Snyder And Schauer Is Too Close To Call

(WXYZ) - With Election Day less than a week away, two of Michigan’s top political races are too close to call. According to a brand new and exclusive WXYZ-TV 7/Detroit Free Press Poll, Democrat Mark Schauer has closed the statistical gap in the campaign for governor.

Republican incumbent Rick Snyder leads by a very narrow margin, 45% - 43%. “But when you factor in the partisan leaning of the undecided, the race is dead even,” says Channel 7 pollster Bernie Porn. Four percent of the likely voters will cast their ballot for third party candidates and 9% are still undecided.

In the final days of a long campaign, this is significant momentum for Schauer. In our exclusive poll taken two weeks ago, Governor Snyder was in the lead by 8 points. What has happened since then? Porn, the founder and president of EPIC MRA summed it up this way, “Schauer’s political advertising dealing with Michigan’s economic issues and pensions has been more effective than the Governor’s.” Porn also points out that Snyder and Schauer are basically splitting each other’s political party vote. “Snyder is capturing 11% of the Democrats and Schauer is pulling in 9% of the GOP vote. So if Schauer can solidify the Democratic vote, we could see an upset on Election Night.”

The other statewide race that is within the 4.0% plus or minus margin of error is the contest for Secretary of State. According to our Michigan survey of 600 likely voters for media partners in Detroit, Lansing, Flint and Grand Rapids, incumbent Ruth Johnson is ahead of Democratic attorney Godfrey Dillard by 4 points, 41% - 37%. Porn cites Republican Johnson’s lack TV advertising and voter confusion about who she is as the reason for the close race. Seventeen percent of the voters aren’t sure how they will vote in this race.

Come on my fellow Michiganian's...push, pull and/or drag every democratic vote to the polls next Tuesday. We can do THIS and it would be huge putting a stop to the GOP juggernaut steamrolling our state now.

Koch can buy all the ads they want, but they cannot buy votes (too greedy to think that way, even if it IS illegal).

And Snyder's screwed over too many people to carry the day.
