How is it possible that Peters won (US Senator) but Schauer lost (MI Gov) to that weasel Snyder?

I really don't get it.

I assume many (most?) voters chose "straight ticket" at the top of the ballot. If most Democrats did this, both Peters and Schauer would have won.

So I'm trying to understand: are there really Democrats that did not vote straight ticket, so they picked Peters but thought the weasel Snyder was doing such a "helluva job" that they voted for him too? I cannot comprehend that thought process. Willful ignorance? Or they felt sorry for the weasel Snyder?

Ditto regarding "Republicans" that did not vote straight ticket: naturally they vote for the weasel Snyder, but how many "steadfast Republicans" would also be saying, "Hey, I like that Peters guy for Senator, even though he's a Democrat" ? Seems rather unlikely to me.

The most logical explanation I can think of is: the senate race was polling heavily in Peters favor before the election, so could not easily be stolen by skewing a few districts tallies here & there. However, the governor race was polling pretty even, or slightly in Snyder's favor before the election, so if he was running a little behind yesterday as the tallies rolled in, the election was easily stolen (a la Ohio 2004).

Not just Michigan, other states as well. I don't think I'm alone in this thinking.

One commentator said she was just about as popular as ebola with the GOP, or maybe a little less.

Since the GOP doesn't like women, especially rich and snooty ones who don't pander to their peculiar tastes, it's possible that they went out of their way to exclude her by voting split ticket. After all Peters is a male in business....

But I think there are a lot of putative Democrats that voted for Snyder...God only knows why. People who hate Detroit, racists, classists, anti-union and anti-public education....they all get some thrill out of Snyder doing in their class enemies. And all the while, they are doing in themselves and their children.

And the Independents, they hate change. So they went incumbent.

The polling doesn't seem to have been done very well, either.

Voted for a Dem state representative, a Repub state senator, Snyder for governor, Repub for US House and there was less then a 100 vote difference between the candidates for US senator.
