Unbelievable...and some folks voted to continue this November 4th.....Paying a EAA Head $325K

Glad we're NOT one of them....

"Veronica Conforme will also get an $8,000 annual vehicle allowance, security protection and $5,000 annually for the purchase of a life insurance policy.

The chancellor of the statewide district for Michigan's lowest-performing schools will make an annual base salary of $325,000 under a new contract that puts her in the top earnings tier of school leaders nationwide.

Veronica Conforme will donate $25,000 of that to charity this year — while receiving an extra $25,000 to cover relocation expenses.

As head of the Education Achievement Authority, Conforme will also get a vehicle allowance, money for life insurance and security protection from the district.

Conforme's base salary exceeds the average salary of $242,000 earned by superintendents at 53 large urban school districts nationwide, as reported in 2014 by the Council of the Great City Schools.

The EAA board approved the contract today. It runs from Nov. 5, 2014, through June 30, 2018."

She gets paid her $325K no matter what....even if kids are continuing to fail....

"Tom Pedroni, an associate professor of curriculum studies at Wayne State University and longtime critic of the EAA, said Conforme's salary seems steep.

"I think it's way too high given the size of the district," he said.

Under the contract approved today by the EAA board, Conforme will get an $8,000 annual vehicle allowance. The district will pay her up to $5,000 annually for the purchase of a life insurance policy and up to $4,000 each year toward a long-term disability insurance plan.

Conforme will also continue to receive $2,000 a month, for six months, to cover temporary housing costs. She had been getting the same monthly amount under her interim contract.

The contract says the $25,000 in relocation expenses will go toward costs associated with moving from her home in New Jersey. It will also be used for the "temporary residence she secured while serving as interim chancellor."

Conforme has voluntarily requested to have the district deduct $25,000 from her salary and give it to philanthropic organizations that "are committed to improving the overall well-being of children and families in the city of Detroit." She has not yet chosen those organizations, EAA spokesman Mario Morrow said.

The contract says the district will contribute 7% of Conforme's base salary to an annuity or other investment account. She'll also be eligible to participate in the retirement plan offered to other EAA employees."

Are pulling their kids OUT Of EAA schools hands over fist.....

"Michigan’s attempt at a state-run “turnaround district” for the lowest-performing schools is bleeding students.

The Educational Achievement Authority is one of Governor Snyder’s signature policy initiatives. It launched in the last school year, with 15 former Detroit Public Schools.

State data now show the EAA lost more than 2,000 students since last school year. That’s nearly a 25% decline.

The EAA has been controversial from the start, and critics have seized on the enrollment numbers to bolster their contention that district is a failed experiment.

One of those critics is Detroit State Senator Bert Johnson.

“I think they’re going to have to scrap it,” Johnson said Friday. “I think there’s enough public awareness [it’s not working] and now scrutiny … and the worst kind of scrutiny is when parents take their children away from the system.”
