1982 Michigan governors election

James Blanchard D, normal & Richard Headlee R, weirdo, ran against each other. In the last 6 wks of that campaign, Headlee went full on primordial tea bagger , several statements about gays& women&
blacks that were so weird & out of context I recall the Free Press laughing @ him on the editorial& front pages. Any one else remember this match? Clinton/Trump seems like an echo.

We used to call him Dickhead Lee.

I lived down the street from Jim Blanchard. He was a good man. He was instrumental in putting together the deal that saved Chrysler when he was in Congress.

Reading the phrase Homosexual Agenda in the paper (& I was very closeted due to family& my internship) was a memorable day. Blanchard always seemed like a smart hard working guy.
