Hamburg Township woman accused of embezzling from woman with dementia
A Hamburg Township woman accused of embezzling from an elderly woman who has dementia returns to court in March.
Cheryl Elaine Smith, 61, is charged in the 15th District Court in Ann Arbor with embezzling between $50,000 and $100,000 from a vulnerable adult and embezzling more than $20,000 from the same victim.
Smith, who is free on a $25,000 personal bond, stood mute at a Saturday arraignment. She returns to court March 2 for a probable cause conference and March 9 for a preliminary exam.
A message left at a number listed as Smith's was not returned Thursday.
It is alleged that Smith stole money from an 89-year-old Washtenaw County woman who is an acquaintance of her family.
