The law won 56 percent support from voters at the polls on Nov. 6, but Republican lawmakers are trying to impose some limits
Starting next Thursday, when recreational marijuana becomes legal in Michigan, anyone age 21 and older can grow up to 12 plants in their home for their own use.
They also can carry up to 10 grams of marijuana on them in public and give away 2.5 grams without receiving any payment in return.
However, Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhoff, a Republican from Ottawa County, just introduced a bill that wouldn't allow home grows.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
(88 posts)1. You don't collect taxes from homegrown stock
2. You also don't have any control over its safety
3. You also run into crime: stealing other people's plants, dealing, and the behaviors that accompany it.

(23,338 posts)Meekhoff doesn't want to allow any home-grown. Another Repub thinks home-grown is ok, but not if your home is also a daycare, and maybe other restrictions.
Whatever they come up with, it'll have to have 3/4 of the senate to pass.
I doubt there will be much home-growing anyway, it's a bit of work and expense. Michigan allows home-brewing of limited amounts of wine and beer, mostly done because of family traditions (a salute to our Italian-American friends) or because of bragging rights (my beer is made from fermented road-kill, it's the best).
