Suffer, Ladies! Michigan State Senator Says Abortion 'Should Be Painful'

A West Michigan state senator had something unique to add to this week's emotional debate in the state capital over abortion: It's supposed to hurt.

Brian Dickerson reports on Sen. Kim LaSata, R-Bainbridge Township, who simply couldn't listen to all your bellyaching about pain and suffering for one more minute:

"Of course it should be hard!" the senator from St. Joseph exclaimed. "And the procedure should be painful! And you should allow God to take over!! And you should deliver that baby!"

LaSata told colleagues she had delivered a stillborn baby after her own D&E procedure went awry. LaSata cited her traumatic experience as evidence "of God looking out for me," and suggested that all women carrying medically unviable fetuses would be better off delivering their babies.

"You should allow God to take over and deliver that baby," she said, "and it shouldn't be made easier for you."

You can imagine the reaction.

Google the senator's name 48 hours later, and she's getting roasted in the places you'd expect, but our single favorite is this: On her Wikipedia page, her name has been, shall we say, edited:

My sister was in ICU 3 days because her embryo had died and she was so sick with the infection that caused. She had only been to the ob/gyn once and he confirmed she was pregnant but that her blood panels were off and he didn't know if the embryo would survive. Our underground railroad got her an appt. in NYC Planned Parenthood but they had to send her to the hospital because she was sick by the time she got there and started hemorrhaging. Can you imagine her terror, being all alone 3000 miles from home, sick as a dog and hemorrhaging and being told the embryo had died and she was herself near death due to the infection. Worst, she couldn't even call our parents because they would be so unsupportive and condemn her badly. I was so terrified when she wasn't on her plane and then found out she'd been sent to the hospital in terrible condition.

This is what those motherfuckers think should be normal, the pain and the fear and the utter sickness of young women who are still children themselves? No one has an abortion lightly, it's a huge decision made painfully in most cases, but it is her life, her body and her own decision. That it would be suggested that this is like a walk in the park is just disgusting and stupid.
