This is how they get away with it! Protect our water!

Speak Up About Sulfide Mining at Lake Superior Binational Forum on Friday, March 15 in Virginia, MN

Dear,

Next week, the Lake Superior Binational Forum is holding its third and final public meeting about the impacts of mining in the Lake Superior basin in Virginia, Minnesota. However, unlike previous meetings, they forgot to invite concerned experts and conservation groups. Except for the 3:00 pm presentation by Fond Du Lac's Water Projects Coordinator, Nancy Schuldt, the agenda is heavily slanted in the mining industry's favor.

It is important that you attend on Friday, March 15 to make our concern visible and ask industry supporters tough questions about sulfide mining.

The Lake Superior Binational Forum with be held on Friday, March 15, 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Mesabi Range Community & Technical College, 1001 Chestnut Street West, Virginia, MN.

The Binational Forum is also an excellent opportunity to learn more about proposed sulfide mining in MN from Nancy Schuldt, one of State's most knowledgeable experts dedicated to protecting water resources as well as tribal rights, and to find out what the mining industry is saying.

WaterLegacy will provide information on the environmental impacts of sulfide mining and research taking a critical look at the wild economic and jobs predictions of the mining industry. We will have an information table and will be available to help you formulate questions to ask during the Q & A sessions after each presentation or during the open comment period at 4:30 pm. WaterLegacy buttons will be available for supporters to wear, increasing our visibility during the meeting.

A full agenda of the meeting is posted on the Forum's website. All Forum meetings are free and open to the public with no need to pre-register. You can find additional information on the economics of mining at WaterLegacy’s LINKS page.

For more information, contact WaterLegacy Northern Coordinator Allen Richardson at (218) 428-0290 or mtechrichardson [at] gmail.com

-- Allen and the WaterLegacy team

P.S. Last summer a panel of U.S. and Canadian judges with the Lake Superior Binational Forum selected WaterLegacy as a recipient in its 2012 Environmental Stewardship Awards Program in the U.S. Organization category!
