Wed Jan 15th, 7pm "Howling for Wolves foundter Maureen Hackett speaking at Coldwater Spring, Mpls.

Hello Coldwater Supporters,

Please make the effort to dress warm and come to Coldwater to meet and hear Howling for Wolves founder Maureen Hackett MD, on Wednesday, January 15. The woman has an impressive resume, including teaching at Mayo Clinic and Wm. Mitchell College of Law, plus work in the trenches outlawing tobacco in MN hospitals and helping Audubon Society in Louisiana after Katrina.

In 2 years of wolf trapping and hunting MN has sacrificed 650 wolves. Think pelts, wildlife trophy, not meat. We’ve got too many deer, too many deer ticks, and a declining moose population with climate change . Hackett calls wolves a “legacy species” and focuses on balance.

The gas pipeline construction project just west of Coldwater is finished. Truckloads of dirt were hauled away and now we have pipeline pipes sticking up out of the ground along the frontage road and Hiawatha bike trail.

Coldwater is lovely in the quiet snow time, the water sings and we have the State Historic Preservation Office acknowledging that Coldwater is a Dakota sacred site and a Traditional Cultural Property (TCP).

Best wishes for a reasonably wonderful 2014.

Wolves are not

man’s best friend.

More family than man

wolf taught man

to sing to prey

to hunt

to eat what he kills.

It wasn’t wolf

perhaps the gods

taught sport killing

and war.
