My Democratic rep lost big, in what is supposed to be a swing district. Just wondering if we held the house statewide.

5. Here in district 27A we had Shannon Savick as our rep.

She seemed like she did a good job, got money from the legislature to begin dredging our lake in town, which desperately needs it. Running against her was Peggy Bennett who honestly I think is a nice person, a school teacher that ran moderate but I somehow doubt she will represent us as a moderate. Since I've moved here in 2002 we've had now 5 different reps, so our district is really tough to hold on to. I would bet it will switch back in '16. I don't think it's gay marriage or anything like that, but this one might be partly because of Citizen's United - there was an insane amount of radio ads and flyers here this time. I've never seen that before.

7. Mine flipped, dammit! District 11B. I still can't understand it.

I really liked our DFL state rep., Tim Faust. I thought he did a great job - I have no idea why anyone would have been dissatisfied with him.

The only thing I can think of is that there are just too many Limbaugh listeners and Fox News watchers in the area, who decided that what they really needed was a fucking Republican. For no good reason other than wanting a Republican representative instead of a DFLer just because. Maybe "Freedom(tm)" or some such bullshit.

It really burns me up and bums me out. In my own precinct Faust got 62.89% of the vote - we liked him well enough! But I could see all the Rarick signs along the highway every day on my commute to work. All the white folks with the nice houses and big farms. Me and the local Ojibwe folks all had our Faust signs out. *sigh*

It makes me really sad...

13. I don't get why we have an island of red in the middle of the state.

Is it all the rich fucks with lake homes? There is a huge contrast between the blue-to-purple Red River Valley and the sold red lakes country. Clay County is Blue, Norman Country is Purple, Otter Tail and Becker Counties are solid red.

I hope he runs again in 2016. Others have managed to get back in. He's young, and the DFL sure needs reps like him, IMO!

You know, honestly, some of these people are so fickle that in 2 years, they'll flip: "Well, he was punished for that [marriage equality] vote so, hey, I'll vote for him now." Not the hardcores, but they didn't vote for him when he won previously.

6. We had the same Democratic candidate from two years ago

She lost to the same Republican incumbent by a fraction of a percent. So the campaign had high hopes.

But, I suppose when the "mood" was to kick out the Democrats, there was not a chance for flipping a Republican seat. This time she lost by 10 points.

And the young ones - who certainly benefited from DFL control over the last two years - didn't show up.

I suspect that one of my nieces may be one of them. She looked a bit ill when I snarled that I sure hope all those parents who like all day kindergarten won't mind paying for it out of pocket (like they had to in the district her kids go to school in) again. She was one of those thrilled with the all day kindergarten bill as it will save her quite a lot when her youngest starts school.

Oh well, at least Dayton won and representatives Lien and Marquart survived.
