Email from Angie's Craig: Kline Retiring

I wanted to make sure that you were among the first to hear. My opponent, Republican John Kline, just announced his retirement.

You did this. With the strong showing we’ve already had, he figured out that this was a fight he wasn’t up for.

But we don't have time to celebrate. Republicans know that this district is up for grabs, and they are going to spend big to try and keep this seat.

That means that today, more than ever, I need you with me. Add your name now and send a message that you’re with me and ready to help us take this seat back.

This is great news, but we can’t rest now. We have to keep up this momentum and continue building a strong campaign if we are going to win this open seat.

All eyes are us now. This is now one of the hottest races in the country.

Please join our team today, and commit to helping us win back this open seat!

Thank you,

Angie

7. John Kline Not Seeking Re-Election In 2016, WCCO/AP

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) — Republican Rep. John Kline announced Thursday he won’t seek re-election in 2016, after serving in Minnesota’s 2nd congressional district since 2002.

... Kline’s announcement Thursday didn’t say why he had decided to step down, but he is 67. He scheduled a call with reporters later in the day

His departure leaves an open field in a district that has been reliably conservative, though some say that the district represents something of a toss-up in 2016.

The 2nd congressional district covers the southeastern section of the Twin Cities suburbs and beyond.
