Mississippi health network to collaborate with Aetna

JACKSON – The Mississippi Affiliated Health Network, which includes hospitals in Oxford, Booneville and New Albany, has signed on to a collaboration with insurer Aetna.

As part of the agreement, network clinicians will be accountable for meeting key quality metrics, such as recommended cancer and diabetes screenings, in exchange for a percentage of savings achieved by improving outcomes while lowering costs. Over time, the level of accountability increases for network clinicians. This type of arrangement is becoming more common as insurance carriers and provider networks across the country move to value-based care, a concept centered on aligning incentives for health care providers to reduce costs and improve quality.

The agreement benefits about 9,000 people enrolled in Aetna plans who have signed a Mississippi Affiliated Health Network provider in the past 12 months.

The alliance includes 13 hospitals and more than a 1,000 clinicians across Mississippi, including Baptist systems, Anderson Regional in Meridian and St. Dominic Health Services in Jackson.
