Police: one fatally shot on Amtrak train in Lee's Summit

LEE’S Summit, Mo. (AP) — One person is dead following a shooting Friday night on an Amtrak train that was stopped at a Missouri station, police said.

Police in Independence, Missouri, were called around 9:15 p.m. to the Amtrak station where they found a person who had been shot while the train had been stopped earlier at the Lee’s Summit station, said Sgt. Chris Depue, a spokesperson for the Lee’s Summit Police Department. Police are looking for the suspected shooter who is believed to have fled in Lee’s Summit, he said.

The Kansas City Star reports the train traveled north to Independence where life-saving efforts were attempted before the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man suspected of killing a Drug Enforcement Administration agent and injuring two other law-enforcement officers during a shootout on an Amtrak train in Tucson was out on bond in multiple violent felony cases.

Sgt. Ray Kelly, a spokesperson for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office in northern California, told The Arizona Republic that the alleged shooter, 26-year-old Darrion Taylor, bonded out of jail after resisting arrest on an outstanding warrant for a separate case in Sacramento.

Kelly said Taylor was wanted on a $200,000 warrant in a case where he was accused of assault involving a deadly weapon, robbery, firing into a dwelling and cruelty to a child. Kelly said Taylor assaulted an officer and attempted to take his firearm as he was brought to the police station.
