Legislators rev up debate on Nebraska's motorcycle helmet law

LINCOLN — Nebraska lawmakers embarked Thursday on the annual debate about repealing the state’s motorcycle helmet law.

State Sen. John Lowe of Kearney introduced the latest proposal, Legislative Bill 368.

But former Sen. Dave Bloomfield of Hoskins, who carried the repeal bill three times before he was term-limited out, watched from the balcony.

Each of his bills died in the face of filibusters mounted by safety advocates within the Legislature.

Anyone who wishes to ride an open vehicle without an approved helmet shall carry insurance to cover any injuries and a disclaimer of claims against any other parties involved in an accident.
