Amid free speech firestorm, NU grapples with keeping debate robust but respectful

As University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds drove across the state last week spreading the NU message, word began to circulate of an incident several days before.

A University of Nebraska-Lincoln sophomore met resistance as she sought to recruit students into a conservative organization called Turning Point USA.

The firestorm that followed — angry Nebraskans and legislators, national publicity — raised the issue of universities’ sometimes awkward relationship with their constituents, especially in conservative states like Nebraska.

Call your friends and all respectively collect the buttons and literature. After she gets a friendly run on her materials, then destroy it in a coordinated fashion in front of her.

Don't shout at and berate her though. It is counterproductive and just what they want. Engage in civil speech with her.

If the professor held up the sign, then I don't see how she did anything wrong. Her protest is directed at the organization - a national well funded organization.
