State rep candidate 'concerned' about opponent's past
DEERFIELD — A Democratic challenger for the state House of Representatives is raising concerns about the 2010 driving while intoxicated and reckless conduct convictions of the incumbent Republican who is running for reelection.
James Spillane, one of the Republicans representing Deerfield in the New Hampshire House, pleaded guilty to the two charges in December 2010.
The Deerfield resident’s license was suspended for nine months, and he was fined $500 as a result. Spillane also received a suspended sentence of one year of jail time pending good behavior. The charges were not previously reported publicly.
The original complaints filed by the Deerfield Police Department accused Spillane of putting his wife’s life in danger after allegedly grabbing the wheel while she was driving, causing the vehicle to crash, and attempting to strangle her. Spillane also was accused of driving away in the damaged car afterward, according to court documents.
