Comedy scene reacts to killing of NYC club owner at his N.J home

Comedians took to social media Sunday to post tributes and remembrances for David Kimowitz, one of the victims of a double murder Saturday at his Maplewood home.

Kimowitz ran The Stand, a comedy club and restaurant in New York. The Wall Street Journal featured him in a 2017 story about a city-wide comedy boom, and his club recently re-opened at a new location near Union Square Park. A host of prominent comedians announced the relaunch in a video.

“There’s a stigma about comedy clubs,” Kimowitz told The New York Times in 2012. “They’re tourist traps, watered-down drinks. We’re trying to evolve the comedy club.”

The New York comedy scene is now taking to social media to pay its respects.
