N.J. would be hit hardest by Biden's tax hikes on the rich, study shows

President Joe Biden’s proposed tax increases on the wealthy would prompt a greater percentage of New Jersey taxpayers to pay more than in any other state, according to a new study.

The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, a progressive research group, found 1.2% of New Jersey taxpayers, or 53,000, would see their taxes go up. That’s tied with Massachusetts for the highest percentage of a state’s taxpayers facing a tax hike.

Still, that means that 98.8% of New Jersey’s taxpayers would see no increase. Nationally, the percentage would be 99.3%, leaving 0.7%, or 1.1 million filers, who would be affected.

“The president’s proposed tax increases would affect only the very rich, one percent or less of taxpayers,” said Steve Wamhoff, the group’s director for federal tax policy. “If you are a remotely normal American, you will not pay more and you probably don’t even know anyone who will pay more.”

1. It's worth it to pay for living in New Jersey. I consider this state to be nirvana.

2. Now that you got rid of Gov. Christie it could be nirvana.

It's debatable if it was while he was the governor.

...the worst thing about New Jersey is choosing a Governor here is almost always a disaster.

Phil Murphy isn't a too bad - ex-Goldman Sachs notwithstanding - but before that, the only great Governor since I've lived here has been Jim Florio, who served one term before being defeated by Christie Whitman, the beginning of a string of really questionable Governors, Democrat and Republican alike, with one great glaring exception, the brief tenure of acting Governor/Governor Jim Codey after McGreevy's resignation.

I was devastated when Corzine decided to push the real New Jerseyan, Codey, aside using cash because he became bored with the Senate and decided he'd like to play Governor.

Codey was the embodiment of everything I love about New Jersey.

Of course, I voted for McGreevy, Corzine, etc. I always vote straight Democratic, but those were occasions where I was less than thrilled to do so.

We would be the worst sane state in the Union (I'm excluding neo-Confederate States like Kansas, Florida, and Texas) for picking Governors, were it not for Illinois. California also gives us a run for our money, I suffered through some nasty Governors when I lived in California - I actually lived there for a spell when Reagan was Governor.
