City Council President Peggy King said a resolution that would have laid the groundwork for a casino in Schenectady has been tabled for the foreseeable future until the panel receives a formal proposal from the developer behind a more than $150 million building project on the old ALCO site.
But that didn't stop a few residents at Monday night's City Council meeting from expressing their views about a gaming hall possibly being part of the mixed-used waterfront redevelopment being proposed by Rotterdam-based Galesi Group Inc.
Mary Ann Ruscitto said many residents of the tiny East Front Street neighborhood, located near the roughly 60-acre site, are in favor of a casino. "As for the casino, most of us are excited about having a casino," she said.

East Greenbush
Imagine the shock of learning, out of the blue, that your residential street is the proposed home for a $300 million casino.
Then imagine discovering that your elected officials have quietly passed a resolution needed to build the project, potentially the biggest development in your town's history, without notifying you or any of your neighbors of the plan or the vote.
Quite a one-two punch, right?
So let's send our condolences to the residents of Thompson Hill Road in East Greenbush, who this month suffered exactly that scenario. If an East Greenbush casino gets built, their quiet suburban neighborhood will never be the same.

About 100 members of development teams for potential casinos filled tables at the mandatory bidders conference of the state gaming commission on Wednesday. The teams offered few questions, although there were indications of concerns.
In particular, Jeff Gural of Tioga Downs racino, wondered aloud what would happen if his project in Nichols doesnt meet whatever the minimum capital investment number will be. That figure is supposed to be revealed by the commission in 10 business days. Hes competing with a Johnson City proposal of $150 million and a Finger Lakes project of $350 million. He said his project is worth $150 million if he gets credit for about $45 million hes spent on his racino.
